No More Bondage
October 24, 2006 on 7:25 pm | In Christian | Comments OffIf you only read one book this year, it should definitely be God’s Holy Word.
If you read two books this year, especially if you are a woman, the second one should be this one.
No More Bondage–Breaking Free From the Prison of Generaltion Sins!
by Pamela Sauer
I have heard a lot of speakers in my time and generally I am concerned by the ones who claim they need a long cord on their mikes (not you Art but Pam was not out to gather attention, she was moving where the Lord told her to move. She started out by saying that she can’t wait to get up and have her prayer time with the Lord because she can’t wait to hear what He has to tell her today. And it shows.
So, even though it was full price, I bought her book. I had to know more about the journey she took that she only alluded to in her speaking time that morning.
Pam in the fifth child of an alcoholic and an enabler. Her mother took the children to church and Pam made a profession of faith in her late teen years. She didn’t begin to live a Christian life for many, many years however. She had a long journey of anger, loneliness, and rejection to manage. She became an adult barely able to read and with such low self-esteem that she didn’t think anything was possible for her. She is honest in the sorts of relationships she had and while she doesn’t name names, she talks about how she can see the hand of God working through certain people and how Satan used others to try to keep her down.
Eventually, of course, she was lead to a church and out of the destructive life she was living. She was married by then and her husband became a Christian then Christ set out to transform her into a woman he could use. This is part two of her book. He led her with head lice and planter’s warts among other things into a compassionate woman. Then He taught her how and when to fast so that He could speak to her heart and teach her how to forgive all the hurt and release all the anger. He took her type A personality and taught her to be fully reliant on Him in such a way that she relishes every moment of her walk.
Pam is a dynamic speaker and it comes through on every page of her book. I purposed to read her book one chapter a day which would have led me through her journey in eleven days. I finished in four. If I had had the time, it would have been finished in one.
She has books available in both hard and soft covers. She is available for conferences and women’s retreats at www.pamsauer.org or pameladsauer@yahoo.com
Whose Promised Land?
October 18, 2006 on 7:46 pm | In Non-fiction | Comments OffWhose Promised Land? The Continuing Crisis Over Israel and Palestine
by Colin Chapman
c. 2002
Published in USA by Baker Books
Using a variety of sources from writings such as Golda Meir and Chaim Weismann as well as the Bible, both old and New Testaments, Colin Chapman takes a long, hard, in-depth look at who actually is entitled to the Promised Land. He also takes a good look at just what IS the Promised Land.
The book is divided into 6 major sections with multiple subsections. Each is an indepth look at one aspect of the ownership, acquistion, and legalities of holding the nation known as Israel. His thoughts should offend anyone with an interest in that area of the world at some point no matter what religious beliefs he or she holds. He holds nothing back in his examination of the Biblical texts and the writings of prominent Jews in the past 120 years. He examines the promises God made concerning the land to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses as well as the prophets. He looks at how the original piece of land was acquired by Abraham. He makes reference to the Holocaust and its role in the settling of Israel by European Jews. He brings in writings from the major leaders of the nation of Israel. Then he looks at the promises made by Jesus concerning the land.
His conclusions?
Well, I won’t completely spoil it for you but among others–the Jews were wrong, the Palestinians could have had peace had they wanted to badly enough, the British were so anxious to rid themselves of their Jewish problem that they created the Middle East problem then pawned it off on the United Nations, and two of the major problems with the ownership of the land lies with the Jews denying that they drove anyone out of the land and the Jews visiting the same sort of hostility on the Palestinians that they suffered through during the holocaust.
While I don’t agree with the author on every theological issue (he’s amillenial), his insight and exhaustive research lends to a real re-visit of what prophecy should be saying about the land of Israel rather than what it is. This is my second reading and I probably still haven’t finished gleaning all the information contained in the volume.
A must read for anyone who wants to understand what is really going on in the Middle East
My copy is trade paperback.
Type is small but it’s not a bad read for the type of work it is.
