Title: Fatal North

Author: Bruce Henderson

In the summer I like to read “cold weather” books as a sort of “mind over matter” to resist the urge to notice how hot it is outside. This book fit the bill. It is also a mystery and should appeal to all CSI fans. It is the story of one man who wanted to go to the north pole in the 19th century. Unfortunately, he didn’t have or take the time to choose his companions well. The mystery is who or what caused his sudden illness and death. CSI fans will appreciate the opening chapter which includes his autopsy “in situ” as he is buried in permafrost. As a Christian, I appreciated what happens to the rest of his companions after his death. The bulk of the work concerns one man and how he was put in a potentially fatal, for him and others, situation. At every turn he was faced with the possibilty of having to fight some companions for the sake of others. Just when it looked the most desperate, God came through for him and he was quick to recognize and praise God for His goodness. I didn’t read this to be uplifted but I was. It was an incredible page turner and reminds you just how big and great God is. Nowhere on earth can you get away from the love and care of God. Not even on an iceflow near the arctic circle.

Check it out. My local library has a copy in the large print section. My personal copy is paperback.
